Matt Berman grew up in the small town of Newton, New Hampshire, just across the Massachusetts border. Although Newton doesn’t have a single traffic light, it’s surrounded by historic New England towns like Exeter and Amesbury, with Boston— where his parents grew up—just an hour away.
Early Interest in Investing
Matt’s interest in investing began early. As a child, he collected and traded baseball cards, learning the basics of value and scarcity long before he entered the financial world. On his ninth birthday, his parents gave him a 1988 American Silver Eagle coin, sparking a lifelong interest in precious metals. Over the years, he built a collection of silver coins, baseball cards, and memorabilia that would eventually help shape his investment journey.
Life in the American West
After graduating from the University of New Hampshire, Matt moved west and began a career with the National Park Service. He spent eleven summers maintaining hiking trails in Grand Teton National Park, where visitors still walk across bridges and stone steps he helped build. His work also took him to Grand Canyon, Saguaro, Olympic, Lassen Volcanic, Chiricahua, Kalaupapa, Fort Bowie, Organ Pipe, Humboldt Redwoods and several other state parks, national parks and forests. During the Great Financial Crisis, Matt had accumulated a sizable collection of silver coins that traveled with him from park to park across ten states. While living in Eureka, California, he purchased the contents of a storage unit at auction for just $65. Inside, along with antique furniture, he discovered approximately $2,000 worth of vintage silver coins, many of them Morgan dollars. He used the proceeds to open his first brokerage account, where he began investing in silver ETFs and individual stocks.
A Diverse Career
Matt’s professional path has been anything but conventional. He has moved 51 times and lived in 39 different dorms, apartments, and houses. Along the way, he’s worked as a bartender, nonprofit administrator, jet fuel specialist, writer, and member of 17 seasonal trail crews. After building a career that spanned hospitality, nonprofit, aviation, outdoor recreation, and literary worlds, Matt joined Singleton Peery Financial in 2025—his 61st job. Along the way, he worked with organizations including Grand Teton National Park, Teton Pines, Dornan’s, Alpenhof, Trio, and Jackson Hole Writers.
Matt and his wife, Meghan, welcomed their first child, Goldie Rose, in November 2025. She already has a certificate of deposit, several investment accounts and a few silver coins.

Matt holds a bachelor’s degree in Mass Media Communications from the University of New Hampshire and an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from Spalding University. His essays and short stories have appeared in literary journals and anthologies.
Outside the office, Matt enjoys hiking, skiing, gardening, photography, writing, and investing.
